Hard Work Brings Profit, Talk Brings Poverty
You can brainstorm, strategize, vision-cast, and whiteboard all day. But if there’s no sweat behind the sentences, Solomon says poverty is coming. Hard work is still the God-ordained path to progress.
This is Wisdom and Wit, and I am your bible teacher, Chris Reighley. Today's scripture comes from the book of Proverbs chapter 14 verse 23 and it reads:
“In all painful labor there is profit, But mere talk leads only to poverty.”
Proverbs 25 praises restraint, discipline, and timely speech. But Proverbs 14:23 adds this piercing truth: talk alone doesn’t move the needle. Only work does.
Painful labor isn’t glamorous. But it’s fruitful. God honors diligence—whether it’s in the field, the classroom, the kitchen, or the quiet corners of ministry that no one sees.
Talk may impress. But toil produces.
And Solomon wants us to know: real wisdom rolls up its sleeves.
